How to brighten up your Office Reception, Workplace or School
We’ve all heard the expression “First impressions count”. It’s certainly true of our reaction whenever we enter a new building for the first time. If the reception area is dull, grey, and featureless it sets an entirely different tone compared to finding a bright, welcoming, and impactful place that lifts expectations and mood. This article looks at some of the options available to brighten offices, workplaces, and schools. We hope it inspires you to consider making some worthwhile changes to your premises.
So, lets start with Wall Graphics and some examples applied across several types of premises.
The photo at the top of this article is a wall graphic created for a junior school in Fleet, Hampshire. It combines bright colours with visual messages of inclusivity for all pupils, and subtly sets out important messages about the school’s core values.
A similar effect was created by wall graphics produced for the school’s library to encourage use and enjoyment of the facility (with plants used in the design to create a feeling of calm, peaceful serenity for pupils).
Wall graphics can also be utilised to convey what a business does. In this example, a firm of bookkeepers used them very effectively on their office wall to inform visitors about their 4-step process for working with clients, featuring this information alongside client testimonials.
While this law firm used the entrance hall to their building to feature client testimonials next to a room used for client meetings.
Office Wallpapers
These are ideal for use with larger areas. In this example, a housing society wanted to showcase their history, experience, and key messages about the way their staff worked with and helped people. It certainly reassured visitors about their credentials and longevity.
Acrylic Signs
Many businesses like to feature their company name near a reception desk, or in a similarly prominent area of their premises. Acrylic signs are ideal for this purpose. They can also be backlit to make them even more effective. In this case, the company’s logo was situated in a prominent position on the wall of their busy workshop.
The same company combined the acrylic sign with two other options to brighten the significantly large area presented by their workshop: PVC Boards (fixed to the wall using stand offs) to showcase some of their products and Wall Vinyls to feature client testimonials.
Meeting Rooms and Offices
Meeting Rooms and offices can use graphics to freshen the look of the space and create privacy. In this example, wall cut vinyl has been used on a previously blank wall to generate interest and promote key messages about the sectors the business works with.
While this meeting room used translucent graphics printed onto office window clingfilm sheets to provide privacy by partially covering the window partitions.
In similar vein, this nursery used window vinyl graphics to add colour to a glass door and window at the entrance to a playroom.
Floor stickers and graphics
During the Covid-19 pandemic many premises used floor stickers to help people stay safe by distancing themselves from others. Floor stickers are also used extensively and very effectively in schools, colleges, hospitals, shopping malls and shops, supermarkets, and larger premises to help people find specific classrooms, wards, shopping aisles, or a particular department.
Other options to consider
Sometimes it’s simply a case of thinking outside the norm. In this example, the client wanted to hide racking used to store equipment in their office, so we produced these vinyl panels that fitted to the racks, acted as a branded backdrop, and brighten up an otherwise dull space. They now use the panels as the backdrop when filming company videos to make even better use of them.
Large format digital printing and modern die cutting machinery lend themselves to the creation of all sorts of graphics, signs, posters, and wallpapers. These can be used for cheering up premises, putting people at their ease, informing visitors about a company, offer directions, or even provide pertinent information (e.g. safety or other warnings to take heed of).
